Certification refers to formal recognition by a professional group or state agency that a person has met certain standards of ability specified by that group. Generally, this means passing an examination given by the organization and meeting certain requirements with respect to education and/or experience. NALA, the NFPA, the National Association of Legal Secretaries (NALS), the American Alliance of Paralegals, Inc. (AAPI), and some states offer paralegal certification programs.?
