CPR should be started immediately upon recognition of cardiac arrest.

Continue CPR until one of the following conditions is met:
1. The person recovers
2. CPR efforts are transferred to another qualified person trained in CPR
3. A physician assumes responsibility for the person
4. EMS personnel (EMTs or paramedics) assume responsibility for the person
5. The rescuer is exhausted and physically unable to continue CPR
