Intention tremors typically appear only on voluntary movement of an extremity and often intensify when terminating the movement. Action tremors (postural tremors) are asymmetrical or symmetrical movements that increase in states of fatigue, weakness, drug withdrawal, hypocalcemia, uremia, or hepatic disease. This type of tremor may be induced in a normal individual when he is required to maintain a posture that demands extremes of power or precision. Asterixis is a variant of a tremor. The rate of limb flexion and extension is irregular, slow, and of wide amplitude. The outstretched limb temporarily loses muscle tone.
