Describe Sigmund Freud's theory of personality and the three parts of the personality he identified conflict with one another

What will be an ideal response?

Answer:
• Freud suggested that we should expect certain people to be involved in crime because people are not generally caring and concerned about others.
• Relates to why people commit crime based on three parts of an individual's personality conflicting with one another due to early life trauma or deprivation
• One part of personality dominates the other two so strongly that deviant behavior are likely to occur.
• Freud proposed the personality is composed of the following 3 primary parts:
o Id—unsocialized part of personality and is focused on seeking pleasure and fulfilling wants and needs for the individual
o Superego—seeks to have the person fit in with society and others and seeks acceptance and positive views of the person by others
o Ego—conscious part of the mind that is the mediating force between the id and superego. Attempts to balance the drives of the id and superego. A well-adjusted person will be provided balance and continuity for meeting personal needs and achieving social acceptance by the ego.
