Compare and contrast the Wechsler Scales of Intelligence with one other individual test of

intelligence.

What will be an ideal response?

In terms of graduate training, instructors are increasingly providing equal training time
for the Wechsler Scales and the Woodcock-Johnson Psycho-Educational Battery
(WJ-R). Both the Wechsler Scales and WJ-R assess verbal and performance abilities;
however, the latter instrument is more heavily influenced by information processing
theory. For example, it contains specific scales that assess long-term memory
functioning, as well as verbal and auditory processing. Although both are used to
identify children with learning problems, the WJ-R may be a more sensitive assessment.
That is, while five children with learning problems may score the same on the Wechsler
Scales (e.g., all with similar, low IQ scores), they may show considerable variability in
functioning on different subscales of the WJ-R. These data may help better inform
educational interventions to meet the needs of individual children.
