Define and contrast active tension and passive tension in a muscle and explain how to use passive tension to increase force

What will be an ideal response?

Active tension is the tension or pull generated by the contractile fibers in a muscle as they contract. Passive tension is the elastic tension generated by the stretch of noncontractile connective tissues (also called parallel elastic components) in a muscle. When moved into a position of stretch, muscles undergo an elastic recoil from the passive tension of its noncontractile tissues, which increases the force of the subsequent contraction, therefore a ball player increases the power of the swing with a backswing.
