What is a setting plate, or leveling plate, and what is its purpose?

What will be an ideal response?

A setting plate is a steel plate set down over the anchor rods, which is then shimmed, leveled, and grouted into place before the column is installed. Setting plates are used when erecting larger, longer, and heavier structural steel columns because the weights of these columns and their baseplates are large. Therefore, it becomes more economical for the steel erecting crews to have setting plates already set and leveled at the proper elevation and secured in place before the structural steel columns are delivered to the job site.
