There are two reasons why it is important to provide clean, dechlorinated water for all amphibians:
(a) Clean water is essential for the health of amphibians to prevent bacterial infections from contaminated
water (red leg is an example).
(b) Amphibians “breathe” through their skin and absorb the chemicals in water that has not been
dechlorinated. Tap water contains enough chlorine to be toxic to amphibians.
