Describe a process for selecting words worthy of instruction
What will be an ideal response?
Classification systems help us think about words but not select them. Students should elaborate
on one described in this chapter: tier 1, tier 2 and tier 3 words or general, specialized, and
technical words.
Words worthy of instruction need to be transportable and need to be relevant and useful. Students should also be taught how to solve unknown words using word parts,
context clues, and resources.
