Students should define a creative city and may discuss how creativity is measured (examples from the text include the rise of the creative class and the related Creativity Index, developed by Richard Florida). Students should discuss the role cities play in cultivating creativity and/or luring creative residents. Students should also identify they understand what diversity within society would look like (race/ethnic, occupational, educational, organic solidarity, etc.). Students should discuss benefits of diversity such as increased stability, improved access to resources, etc. Students may discuss how improving life chances through diversification and inclusivity raise the quality of life for all people and are a social not just personal concern. Students should also identify real and specific challenges to successful diversification and inclusivity. Examples include issues with integrating new diverse populations, lack of affordable housing, poor economic conditions, cultural differences, etc. Students may also examine how most urbanization is occurring in the developing world and many countries have few resources to devote to successful diversification.
