What will be an ideal response?

An acid is a chemical that dissociates in water to release a hydrogen ion (H+) while a base or alkali is a chemical that accepts a hydrogen ion in a solution. Buffers bind hydrogen ions released from acids and release H+ to bind to bases to resist dramatic swings in the hydrogen ion concentration of body fluids.
