The expressive arts foster a mind-body connection that capitalizes on clients’ using their five senses. Malchiodi (2005 ) has reported that “The advances made in the field of neuroscience and neurodevelopment have also drawn attention to the potential of expressive therapies in regard to mind-body intervention, particularly in the areas of mood disorders, stress disorders, and physical illness. …Music, art, and dance/movement may be helpful in tapping the body’s relaxation response…..” She has stated that expressive therapies can be helpful reestablishing and encouraging healthy attachments through sensory experiences and hands-on activities (Malchiodi, 2003).
