List and briefly describe techniques used in structural therapy.

What will be an ideal response?

Setting boundaries--When privacy is a scarce commodity and “being your-own-person” challenges the structural system, a system in which boundaries can easily disintegrate or bleed into one another, the therapist will focus on boundary construction; Enactment--requires the couple/family to recreate the problems in session that brought them to therapy which provides the therapist an opportunity to change critical aspects of the problem and explore the effect the changes had on the couple/family; Rule challenge--exploration of how the family misapplied a family rule; Reframing--therapist offers alternative explanation by relabeling something that can cause positive change to occur; Unbalancing--therapist “objectively sides” with a member or subsystem to counter a problem-provoking aspect of family life.
