How could Skinner’s radical behaviorism explain Allen’s ambition to change careers? How does the focus of Skinner’s theory compare with that of Rogers’s?
What will be an ideal response?
Radical behaviorism could explain Allen’s ambition to change careers through the use of rewards and punishments. Although Allen has a good job, the monotony and boredom is punishing and therefore discourages its continuation. His love of children and interest in teaching is encouraged (rewarded) by potential feelings of satisfaction.
Skinner’s theory is more environmentally based than Rogers’s, whose is more humanistic in nature. Skinner focuses on rewards and punishments, whereas Rogers’s focuses on growth and the conditions necessary for that growth.
