In order to perform surgery on a patient, it is important for the patient to be thoroughly worked up. Knowing the history, symptoms, diagnosis and reason for the surgery is achieved with a history and physical that are required prior to surgery. During the surgery, a report must be generated as well to detail the process and ensure the patient is cared for properly. Upon discharge, another report is generated to detail the outcomes and expectations of the patient as she recovers. All components are required for a surgical procedure so that the patient’s health is recognized and she is treated accordingly.
