Homo erectus was a social species and lived in groups of 20 to 50 individuals. The groups lived in caves and hunted large animals. They butchered and cooked their food. Homo erectus was more widespread, more numerous, and more successful than H. habilis. It is highly probable that H. erectus could talk. Larger than H. habilis, H. erectus had a large brain and a rounded jaw, like modern humans. H. erectus survived for more than one million years, which is longer than any other human species.
