Compare conduction aphasia and transcortical sensory aphasia in terms of deficit and brain damage.
What will be an ideal response?
The arcuate fasciculus is a direct connection between Wernicke's area and Broca's area that allows individuals to recognize words. When individuals have transcortical sensory aphasia, they have damage to the posterior language area and they are unable to comprehend speech but they can repeat speech. Their ability to repeat is intact due to the arcuate fasciculus. In conduction aphasia, however, this area is damaged, resulting in an inability to repeat words that aren't real.
