Describe a pilot test and explain it’s basic purpose.

What will be an ideal response?

Ans: Answer would ideally include: A pilot test is a trial run of the data collection process to determine if any revisions should be made before actual data collection occurs. Using a small group--perhaps 15–20 individuals--selected from the population of interest, the cover letter and survey are distributed and completed. Upon completion, the researcher seeks feedback from the participants. This process gives the researcher an idea of how long it might take individuals to complete the instrument. It also provides feedback about specific questions that may need revision prior to actual data collection.
