Explain what optic flow is, and give an example of how you use it in your everyday life.

What will be an ideal response?

Student answers will vary. A sample answer follows.
Optic flow refers to the movement pattern generated by objects, animals, and people at different distances as we move past them. Because the world is constantly in motion, optic flow is a crucial part of our perception. Pilots use optic flow to help them land planes, and I use it when I drive. For example, I use optic flow to determine how fast another car is approaching so that I can decide whether to turn right away or to wait.
