Describe the major features of dyslexia.

What will be an ideal response?

Most cases of dyslexia involve poor phonological awareness, or the ability to dis- criminate verbal information at the level of speech sounds, or phonemes, as evidenced by difficulties with words that rhyme. During a rhyming task, typically developing children, but not children with dyslexia, recruited the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (Kovelman et al., 2012). The left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex plays an important role in phonological awareness, which forms the basis of reading. Dyslexia is also associated with difficulties with rapid naming (Norton et al., 2015). This difficulty might result from poor coordination of linguistic and cognitive processes required for fluent reading.
