Please explain child maltreatment prevention as a public health framework, and what the authors suggest as viable programming.
What will be an ideal response?
From a public health perspective, prevention programming should be multifaceted. The public health perspective focuses on lessening risk factors across levels of the social ecology and making a long-term impact. Community-level and policy-level interventions show promise for prevention in disadvantaged neighborhoods and much evidence-based programming focus on the families and parents. Interventions directed to abusive parents must also contend with environmental factors that less the parent’s ability to interact with their children in ways that are healthy.
