B
Wounds that are initially left open and are subsequently closed surgically are said to heal by tertiary intention healing. Primary intention healing occurs when the wound edges are closed surgically. Secondary intention healing occurs when the wound is left open to heal by granulation, contraction, and epithelialization. The ideal approach to wound repair is regeneration, however this is limited only to wounds involving epidermal and partial dermal loss.
