Describe the term “process out of control.”
What will be an ideal response?
When a process is out-of-control it is typically due to a change in the process that is responding to an undesirable cause. These undesirable causes are easy to identify and can be helpful in getting the process back into process guidelines. A single plot point that fails outside the upper and lower control limits is indicates that the process may be out of control. This is a red flashing signal to a process technician that something has happened and needs to be investigated. This may indicate that an assignable cause of variation is occurring. This variation may be coming from a different population or process that has a completely different set of control limits.
