Trace the process that a memory goes through during formation. Include the brain areas involved in each step.
What will be an ideal response?
Although many aspects of memory are still unknown, scientists have theories about how a memory forms. The three steps of memory formation are encoding, storage, and retrieval. Encoding happens when the eyes, ears, nose, skin, or mouth takes in information and transmits it to the brain. Then the brain stores the information, but memory storage seems to take place in several areas of the brain. Retrieving information, the third step in memory formation, happens in the hippocampus.
