All forensic evidence can be broken down into the two broad categories of class evidence and individual evidence. Class evidence cannot be linked to a particular individual or object but only to a class of objects. The vast majority of evidence that is dealt with in the criminal justice system is class evidence. Individual evidence can be linked to one individual or to a specific object.
