What are the primary differences between federal and state law enforcement agencies?

What will be an ideal response?

Federal law enforcement agencies have very limited jurisdictions and only perform law enforcement activities. Unlike federal law enforcement agencies, state police or highway patrol organizations not only perform general law enforcement functions but are also engaged in patrol, traffic control, crash investigation, and related functions. They provide assistance to motorists, investigate roadway emergencies, and assist local police officers upon request.

State bureaus of investigation (SBIs) bear a closer resemblance to federal agencies; SBIs have been described as a state’s equivalent to the FBI.
