What are some "hidden" costs to homeownership that can affect the resale value of a home?

What will be an ideal response?

There are many "hidden" costs to home ownership like school districts, zoning restrictions, and even resale value. For example, even though you may not want or have children, being in a good school district increases the resale value of your home. Make sure you know who owns the property around you and what zoning restrictions regulate the use of the property. You can buy a house nestled against a nice wooded forest, but if the adjacent property is zoned for commercial use, nothing prevents a developer from putting up a strip mall. This zoning devalues your home when it comes time to sell it. It's even important to keep up with all the routine maintenance a home demands. It's very common when you go to sell your house that the new buyer's home inspection will reveal needed repairs before the sale will go through. You're already spending a lot of money on agent commissions, closing costs, and moving costs to sell your home. You don't want to also have to spend another $15,000 or so for a new roof or a new heating system as a condition of the sale.
