What are play-based interventions? Give an example of an effective play-based intervention a teacher might use in the classroom to develop cognitive and communication skills.

What will be an ideal response?

Play-based interventions are designed to develop socioemotional, cognitive, communication, and fine and gross motor skills through interactive and natural play. To design and use play-based interventions, teachers must rely on a transdisciplinary team of teachers, service providers, and family members to target the appropriate needs of each child. Based on these recommendations, a teacher might guide children's play in ways to develop cognitive and communication skills. Student examples will vary, but one example would be a teacher having children play "banking," where one child is the banker and one is the customer. They each take turns communicating what they need from the bank; they may count money, distinguish between coins and dollars and learn to use "checks" or "credit cards" in a play fashion.
