What are the most recent findings of gender differences in the cognitive realm (e.g., verbal, mathematical, and visual-spatial abilities)?

What will be an ideal response?

* Differences in verbal ability are quite small and have decreased since earlier studies although women outperform men on anagram and verbal or associational fluency. These differences are in fact so small that many claim there are no differences. Also, if differences are biological, why are they getting smaller over time?
* Studies have found that sex differences regarding mathematical ability have been exaggerated and can be explained by environmental factors and the stereotype vulnerability hypothesis. Boys and girls do not differ in math aptitude or ability.
* Studies continue to suggest a sex difference in visual-spatial abilities. The size of the differences ranges from small to large, usually in favor of men. The most consistent findings show that men outperform women on mental rotation tasks.
