A latent fingerprint is a fingerprint made by the deposit of oils and/or perspiration that is invisible to the naked eye. Latent fingerprints are formed when a finger touches a surface and transfers perspiration, along with oils that may have been picked up by touching the hairy portions of the body, onto that surface, thereby leaving an impression of the finger's ridge pattern.
