What are the research findings with relation to loss of dendritic density and shrinkage of the cerebral cortex? What factors correlate with these findings?
What will be an ideal response?
Primary aging does decrease dendritic density. However, it is important to note that educational level is negatively correlated with shrinkage of the cerebral cortex (loss of dendritic density). This finding is independent of other factors such as socioeconomic status. Older adults between the ages of 60 and 90 with higher levels of education show significantly less atrophy than those who have fewer years of schooling.
