Describe in detail why a safety reporting system is important for an aviation company to employ. What are some of the possible benefits of a reporting process?

What will be an ideal response?

Discussion can include many different points, but should go toward providing a means to report accidents, incidents, injuries, near-miss events, (as are defined in the incident investigation section in this chapter), and any hazards or areas of risk that have been identified. The absence of a safety reporting system in an aviation organization represents a significant gap and is thus an area of potential threat. Safety-related changes cannot be made in the absence of specific information about what is going on in a company. The success of an aviation safety program is dependent upon obtaining current information that can be analyzed so that corrective actions can be put into place as needed. Safety reporting helps to ensure that the appropriate amount of attention and resources are given to specific areas and enables the organization to understand what is occurring in its system.
