What is the 2014 U.S. State of Cybercrime Survey and what were its results?
What will be an ideal response?
The survey is sent out annually to readers of CSO Magazine, visitors to the magazine's Web site, and members and partners of the USSS's Electronic Crimes Task Forces. Of the organizations responding to the survey, 77 percent reported at least one cybersecurity event over the previous year, 34 percent reported an increase in cybersecurity events during the previous 12 months, and 69 percent of those who detected a cybersecurity incident were unable to estimate the financial costs of the incident. Nearly one-third (32 percent) of the respondents considered damage caused by insider attacks to be more damaging than outsider attacks, with insiders reportedly responsible for 82 percent of incidents involving the unintentional exposure of private or sensitive information, 76 percent of incidents in which confidential records were compromised or stolen, 71 percent of incidents where customer records were compromised or stolen, and 63 percent of incidents where employee records were compromised or stolen.
