When might amniocentesis be appropriate?
What will be an ideal response
Amniocentesis might be performed any time a history of any genetic disability is discovered in a family, especially if there are several occurrences in a family. This will give the parents an early warning of any possible problem with the fetus. Other "high-risk pregnancies" ( such as in women over 35 ) may also suggest use of amniocentesis.
