Compare and contrast parole, supervised mandatory release, and unconditional mandatory release
What will be an ideal response?
• Discretionary parole is release from prison to community supervision by the decision of a parole board, after completing the minimum portion of an indeterminate sentence. Parolees are required to meet certain conditions as a stipulation of their release and are subject to being returned to prison if they violate them. Supervised mandatory release (also referred to as mandatory parole) is the release of inmates after they have served a determinate sentence, but with a period of supervision in the community. There are still requirements and conditions that must be met or fulfilled or offenders can be returned to prison. With unconditional mandatory release, inmates that serve the full portion of their sentence and pay their full "debt to society" have no supervision after release from prison.
