What does Harvey (1992) argue are the consequences of globalization?
What will be an ideal response?
A satisfactory answer to this question would recognize that in the present stage of globalization a separation has occurred between the real or material economy and the symbolic or sign economy. Increasingly, the latter, as a result of digitalization, is becoming disconnected from the former. A better answer would be aware of the dangers of these tendencies, expressed in the dot-com boom and its subsequent collapse and would relate them to arguments about the late modern or postmodern era, depending on theorists. An excellent answer would be au fait with the notion of contemporary capitalism as a system of global flows of signs, symbols, and things.
