Describe the commonalities and differences between PTSD and ASD

What will be an ideal response?

Similarities: Exposure to a perceived life-threatening event provoking an intense emotional response, a recurrence of the event through images, flashbacks, dreams, thoughts, or distress upon unexpected reminders of the event, attempts to avoid any place situation, or experience that may remind the individual of the event, numbing of emotions and reactions, and an increased sense of arousal.

Differences: Time lapse between the event and the clinically significant stress response. ASD occurs within four weeks of the event and lasts for a maximum of four weeks. PTSD symptoms last for more than four weeks. ASD has an additional criterion not found in PTSD called dissociative symptoms. There is also a difference between the number of criteria necessary for diagnosis for ASD and PTSD.
