Name a time in which you violated a gender norm. What was the norm you violated? How did people respond to you? How did this make you feel?

What will be an ideal response?

Varies. Students may select a variety of examples. One example could be a female high school student wearing a suit to prom instead of a dress. This violates the norm of femininity as there are cultural expectations for women to wear dresses on special occasions as a way of "performing" being a woman. Perhaps other students looked at the female student wearing a suit in strange ways. Students could automatically assume that the female student is a lesbian, as there are many cultural expectations regarding lesbians being more "masculine" than straight counterparts. This may make the individual feel like they can't be themselves or dress in ways that they want to for fear of being negatively judged.
