A physician is concerned that a 70 year old female client may have osteoporosis after reviewing her x-rays following a fall in her home. The test the physician orders to make a diagnosis of osteoporosis is a(n):

a. MRI c. bone scan
b. DEXA scan d. myelogram

B
A MRI uses magnetic field and radio waves to scan body tissues to detect skeletal abnormalities, disk problems, and joint disorders. A bone mineral density test or DEXA scan (Dual Energy x-ray absorptionmetry) is performed to determine the presence of osteoporosis. In a bone scan, a radionuclide is injected into the client's vein and then a scan of the bone is taken. A myelogram is an x-ray of the spinal subarachnoid space following the injection of an opaque medium or air contrast. This is used for diagnosis of spinal cord conditions.
