In small groups, select one of the five types of intervention groups described in this chapter. Select (from one of your field placements) and discuss an example of that type of treatment group. Focus on the following questions as a means of clarifying the group characteristics. At the end of the discussion period, discuss as a class whether the different types of groups tend to have distinct norms.

• What range of emotional expression is anticipated in the group?
• What member patterns for working on problems and staying on task are considered functional?
