Explain why Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet (PPPoE) is used with many DSL connections.

What will be an ideal response?

PPPoE is used with many DSL connections to give the DSL providers more control over monitoring who is using the DSL modem. The DSL people adopted it to make stronger controls over your DSL connection. In particular, you now have to log on with an account and a password to make the DSL connection. PPPoE is now predominant on DSL.
