Discuss gender role intervention.

What will be an ideal response?

A counselor does not go through a detailed gender role analysis but instead helps the client to understand and to deal with the impact of gender role and other social expectations on her or him (Enns, 2000). The therapist helps the client achieve insights about social role expectations. For instance, an older woman may feel that she is not qualified to obtain a job. The counselor works with the woman to understand the societal basis of such beliefs; however, the counselor keeps the focus on identifying positive worker abilities that the client possesses.
