Compare authentic leadership and servant leadership; how are they the same and how are they different?
What will be an ideal response?
Authentic leadership is defined as: “persons who have achieved high levels of authenticity in that they know who they are, what they believe and value, and they act upon those values and beliefs while transparently interacting with others”. Servant leadership is illustrated by this statement: “The best test and the most difficult to administer is: Do those served grow as persons? Do they, while being served, become healthier, wiser, freer, more autonomous . . . more likely themselves to become servants?”
Thus authentic leadership has a greater focus on understanding oneself and being true to oneself, while servant leadership has a greater outward focus on helping others and on helping others develop. However, authentic leadership does believe in being transparent with others, and servant leaders probably need to be authentic if they want to help others develop their own potentials.
