What are the primary strengths of randomized controlled trials?
What will be an ideal response?
Ans: RCTs can produce objective and unbiased results, and hence are viewed as the gold standard of clinical research. This is due in large part to the use of randomization, which balances out factors that either cannot be controlled for or are unknown, and the use of blinding (single, double, and triple), which reduces potential sources of bias such as perceived benefit. These design elements ensure that the amount of change attributed to participation in the study is the same across groups. Therefore, change in the outcome of interest can be attributed to the intervention.
