Describe the three major functions of organizational communication and provide at least two examples to illustrate each function

Please provide the best answer for the best statement.

Answer: Traditionally, scholars recognize three major functions of organizational communication: production, maintenance, and innovation. Production refers to communication that coordinates individuals’ activities so they can accomplish tasks. For example, when managerscreate a set of store opening and closing procedures, inform employees of monthly sales goals, or develop a standardized process for assembling products, they allow employees to accomplish various tasks. Another example would be when a supervisor sets a deadline on a specific project, thus letting employees know when that project is due. The maintenance function of organizational communication serves to maintain existing aspects of the organization. For example, awarding an employee-of-the-month plaque shows to that specific employee the expectations they have fulfilled and encourages them to continue fulfilling those expectations. Other examples include conducting a performance review or clarifying a vague set of workflow procedures—both of which enforce the status quo and keep the system running smoothly. A third function is innovation, which involves communication that encourages change in the organization. An exampleis a suggestion box for employees to offer their own opinions on how things can be improved. Other examples include restructuring and retraining or policy revisions.
