What are the social conditions of Aborigines and Maoris as compared to whites in Australia and New Zealand?
What will be an ideal response?
Overall, Aborigines and Maoris are less well educated and earn less money than whites in Australia and New Zealand. This is the result of historic discrimination against the native peoples in both nations. Aboriginal people have fared worse than Maori. Aboriginal people, who were once exclusively hunter-gatherers, now reside overwhelmingly in urban slums located on the outskirts of major cities such as Sydney and Melbourne. They suffer from unemployment, alcoholism and drug abuse. Maori are far more numerous in New Zealand and have been
able to maintain many aspects of their traditional culture but still find themselves marginalized when compared to wealthier whites in New Zealand.
