Explain the concept of McDonaldization. Why is it called "McDonaldization"? What are the four characteristics that define this process?

What will be an ideal response?

Answers will vary but should include that McDonaldization is a process of rationalization with irrational consequences. McDonaldization rationalizes through four characteristics: (1) efficiency emphasizes the quickest and least costly means to whatever end is desired, (2) calculability focuses on quantity over quality and often means tasks are done under great time pressure, (3) predictability emphasizes that products are nearly identical and experiences are highly predictable rituals, and (4) control emphasizes the use of advantaged technologies and the ways in which technology enables increasing control over people and products.
