Explain how the neighbor solicitation/advertisement process works.
What will be an ideal response?
When an IPv6 computer joins a network, it sends out multicast neighbor solicitation packets searching for other computers on its broadcast domain. Because these packets all begin with ff02, only IPv6-capable machines on the broadcast domain will hear the multicast packet. Any IPv6 host that hears the multicast solicitation will respond with a neighbor advertisement packet, essentially saying, "I hear you and this is who I am." This is the functional equivalent to IPv4 ARP.
