Describe self-determination theory
What will be an ideal response?
Ryan and Deci (2000) emphasize the importance of having our needs for autonomy, competence, and relatedness met. Being able to complete tasks and function independently (autonomy), believing in your ability to complete tasks successfully (competence), and being connected to others (relatedness) are all important and necessary for success. When these needs are met, intrinsic motivation increases and this is associated with increased motivation and performance.
