Distinguish between the types of meristems

What will be an ideal response?

Apical meristems allow for the plant to grow in length, both in the roots and stems. This growth is known as primary growth. Xylem and phloem produced by primary growth are known as primary xylem and primary phloem. Lateral meristems allow plants to grow in girth. This is particularly evident in woody plants. Vascular cambium, in particular, forms secondary phloem on the outside and secondary xylem on the inside, which is wood. Cork cambium is another type of lateral meristem, and it produces cork, the outer part of the bark of trees and shrubby plants.
